Showdown in Hong Kong (新たなる聖獣、白虎族, A New Holy Beast, the White Tiger Family) is the ninth episode of the Beyblade: 2000.
Summary[]
Kevin challenges Ray to a battle. However, it's Tyson that takes him on instead, but Tyson quickly falls to Kevin's ability to wobble and multiply. Bruce, who had challenged Tyson, bumps into Lee, Gary and Mariah, the other members of the White Tigers, and he tells them about his encounter with Ray. Tyson then beats Kevin in battle, before the rest of the White Tigers show up. They all seem to know Ray, calling him a traitor, and tell him that they will also be entering the tournament.
Plot[]
Kevin decides to battle Tyson to prove that Tyson is just a lucky rookie. Tyson quickly agrees to the street battle. He appears to be in control until Kevin uses his Crazy Monkey Attack. This sends Tyson's beyblade out of the dish. Tyson quickly regains his composure and declares the match up a best of 3.
Elsewhere, Bruce is walking around moping when he runs into Mariah. Mariah asks him where Kevin is and he says that he's off battling Ray. Mariah perks up at this, but Lee and Gary also hear this news. They have Bruce lead them back to the battle site.
At the battle site, Tyson doesn't play around. He lets Kevin summon his Crazy Monkey Attack, but he immediately activates his Hurricane Attack and blows Kevin's blade out of the dish. Kevin realizes that he is not a match for Tyson, but he is determined to finish the best of 3, when the rest of the White Tigers show up. They get onto Kevin for battling outside of an approved site. Kevin gets frustrated with the lecture and leaves. Kai also appears. Looking for a challenge, he wishes to take on Lee. Mariah doesn't like this, so she shows Kai the power of her cat scratch attack. It shreds the stairs by the Bladebreakers, making Kai realize that the White Tigers won't play around.
The Bladebreakers head off for the Asian Tournament wondering what Ray's connection to the mysterious White Tigers team is, as he refuses to explain it to them.

English Language Adaptation[]
See here for more information.
The following are some of the changes made to this episode in the English language adaptation of the series originally in Japanese.
- The English version's different story dialogue at the start has Kevin be seen as a spy, unlike in the Japanese version, which has Rei (Ray) be seen as coward and a traitor instead, with Kiki (Kevin) asking him "Did you loose your courage too when you betrayed us, Rei [Ray]?"
- The English version's different story dialogue at the start doesn't highlight friendship as the original Japanese version.
- In the Japanese version, Mao (Mariah) refers to Rai (Lee) as her big brother, while in the English version this was omitted. The episode's Japanese title (A New Holy Beast, the White Tiger Family) should also be noted, alluding to a family.
Trivia[]
- After Kevin and Tyson launch their battle, Ray's white cloth keeping his hair together briefly goes unusually high up his back, contrasting with its usual look, as seen, for example, later on the episode.
