Wyvron Armed Massive, known in Japan as Wyvern Armed Massive (ワイバーン・アームド・マッシブ, Waibān Āmudo Masshibu) is a Defense Type Beyblade released as part of the Burst System. It was released as a Starter in Japan on September 19th, 2015 for 1400円 and was later released in western countries in late 2016 as a Single Pack.
Energy Layer - Wyvron
Main article: Energy Layer - Wyvron
Wyvron is a circular, seven-bladed Energy layer. The center of the Energy layer features the head of a dragon to represent this Layer's Japanese namesake; a two legged, winged dragon, the Wyvern.
While the spiked design may imply that this Energy layer has alot of recoil, the direction of the blades means that they would parry the oncoming hits which reduces recoil. When the opponent's layer comes into contact with Wyvron, there are two likely outcomes. The opposing energy layer hits the outside of Wyvron’s blade, resulting in minimal impact, or the opposing layer hits the empty space between Wyvron’s spikes, causing the opposing energy layer to be pushed away. This gives this Energy layer high defense potential. Most of the weight of this Energy layer is focused around the perimeter which combined with its circular shape gives it excellent stamina properties as well.
The Takara-Tomy release of Wyvern features four teeth of short length, while this may imply poor burst resistance, the circular shape of Wyvern produces such little recoil that it can be withstood by its teeth, creating a Layer with high Burst resistance. However, like other pre-Xcalibur Layers, the teeth of Wyvern wear out fairly quickly and thus multiple copies must be purchased in order to replace ones that have worn down.
Forge Disc - Armed
Main article: Forge Disc - Armed
Armed has a bulky appearance implying a heavy weight while in reality it is actually very light due to how hollow the Disc is. Armed’s lightness gave it the greatest Burst resistance of any Disc at the time while the relatively smooth surface reduced recoil when struck if paired with a Performance Tip with poor stability. However, this same lightness severely reduced Knock-Out resistance and stamina as a trade-off.
Performance Tip - Massive
Main article: Performance Tip - Massive
Massive features a ball shaped tip that sits at the standard height, akin to Defense, but differs by having a larger diameter, having three tabs instead of four and lacking the defensive ring. In theory, the wider tip would increase a Beyblade's defense by having greater surface area and friction, however in practice, Massive lags behind Defense in almost every aspect.
Like other ball based defensive Performance Tips, the tabs around Massive are meant to act as brakes against Knock-Outs at the cost of stamina by striking against the stadium floor, however, the larger diameter makes such contact rare, giving Massive weaker Knock-Out resistance than Defense.
The greater surface area of the larger ball creates a semi-aggressive movement pattern early in the battle, bringing a Beyblade closer to the Tornado Ridge. Due to the aforementioned weaker Knock-Out resistance, any Beyblade using this tip will become very easy to Knock-Out.
